Over Primary School Real Bread Day A couple of weeks ago we went into Over Primary School in Cambridgeshire, UK to teach 90 year 5 & 6 children to make real bread. NINETY!!! By the end of the day we were exhausted but incredibly satisfied! We took our faithful Rofco bread oven to the school and baked over 90 loaves of various shapes and forms. We took in different types of bread for the children to try and compare - our Soudoughs and wholdmeals, granarys and some Kingsmill, and all the different types of flour we use - even took in a few ears of wheat. | The children had a great time! They all enthusiastically made beautiful real bread loaves, plaits and cobs. We have never baked so much bread in one go!! We've had wondeful feedback from the children, parents and the teachers. One lad came up to Mark and said, "Do you do this for a job? I didn't know work could be such fun!" And a parent has also written: "Hi I just wanted to say how much my daughter and her friends in year 5 enjoyed the bread lesson last week! She came home so excited and very proud of the bread she had made, and now wants to own a bakery! Amazing idea, thank so much, PS it tasted great too!" Wonderful children, wonderful teachers, wonderful day. Thanks to Bookers Cash & Carry for donating the flour, & Tesco at Bar Hill for donating the yeast. If only one of those children takes our recipe and bakes at home then job done! But we think quite a few homes in Over will become Real Bread homes! |
