What's that got to do with the price of Bread? Orb bread cheaper than supermarkets!
I'm sure many of you know that the price of bread is of considerable economic interest - political revolutions have been triggered by increases in bread prices.
We know that currently the 'artisan' baking fraternity is producing quality products but that this often can seem to have a premium price. Many customers are happy to pay this because of the quality, taste and health issues, plus the fact that one slice of Real Bread will be satisfying in the way that several slices of industrial bread could never hope to be.
Nevertheless price is an issue and for some the cost on the label is all that they see. But some close analysis of bread prices in the supermarkets has come up with some interesting findings....

- Waitrose White Sourdough loaf costs £2.65 for 400g - equivalent to a whopping £5.30 for a large 800g loaf
- A Bread Campaign member has also found an M&S 'artisan' range 300g loaf which works out to be £6.50 equivalent for a large 800g loaf!!

Today is the last day for ordering from this week's Cambridge Food Assembly - for the list of wonderful local food producers that you can purchase goodies from. The FA holds a collection each week on Wed in Cambridge (East Road, Cambridge) - but if you want some stuff and can't make that let us know and we can pick it up for you and bring it back to Over.
