1. World Bread Awards -

here's the link for the last time....http://www.worldbreadawards.com/peoples-choice/
2. Sourdough September! Orb Bakery Giveaway!!!
Every September the Real Bread Campaign promotes the wonders of tasting and making naturally risen sourdough breads (ie. those made without baker's yeast). Orb is a proud member of the Campaign and we're keen to take part. So.....
Making:
If any of you would like to try to make your own sourdough breads Orb is here to help. During September we will...
- give you some sourdough starter - the magic fermented flour and water that provides the ooooomph to get your bread going and provides that wonderful distinctive flavour.
- give you all the advice and guidance you need to get you to the stage where you've produced your perfect sourdough loaf
- point you in the direction of some wonderful on-line help - including many useful You Tube videos
- give you the opportunity to come and bake with us one night so you can see what we do to get the Sourdough's out of the door.
Let us know if you're interested in this - we'd be delighted to induct you into the Sourdough Sisterhood or Brotherhood!
BTW if you already make wonderful sourdough Orb would be delighted to hear from you to share sourdough conversation - we're sure we can learn from you.
Tasting:
Never tried Sourdough? Does the name put you off? Who wants to eat sour tasting bread?
We do suffer in this country we feel from the name we give to our naturally risen breads. How much more romantic does the french 'Pain au Levain' sound? Quite a lot.
Sourdough taste is fantastic - Seiously - you'll think why did I not try this so much earlier!!
So Orb is encouraging you all to try at least one Sourdough bread from our list - and if you already regularly have a Sourdoug how about trying a different one?
3. Over Village Market 3rd October
This is now certain to go ahead on the Green at Over near the pavilion. Please put the date in your diary. We'll be putting more information out over the next few weeks and via Facebook and Twitter
4. Rosegate Farm Market Morning - Saturday 5th September
Orb and our good friends Heather & Charlie from Fen End Kitchen preserves and chutneys will be selling our wares in the farm yard outside the butchery at Rosegate Farm in Swavesey next Saturday morning. We'll be aiming to get there by 8.30am - bake permitting -but should certainly be there by 900am.
Come down for wonderful bread, biscuits and cakes, superb jams, curds and chutneys, and some of the best meat you'll ever taste.. What a wonderful area to live in!!
5. 100% Spelt Bread - 100% Organic stoneground Organic Flour
Over the last couple of weeks we've been making some really great Spelt flour bread. The organic Spelt Flour is grown at Manor Farm at Bradenham near Thetford and stoneground milled by Jon Cook at his windmill at Swaffham Prior http://www.priorsflour.co.uk/.
Spelt grain is ancient - apparently brought to the UK by the Romans but being grown and used in Europe for centuries BC. Spelt was one thing that Monty Python did not mention in their famous 'What have the Roman's ever done for us?' scene in the LIfe of Brian. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spelt
We are using 75% white spelt to 25% wholemeal - giving a wondeful flavoured bread that you'll love - it has an almost caramel tone - and is delicious with sweet or savoury and excellent toasted.
Because it's organic, and a specialist grain not grown everywhere, the flour is quite expensive and therefore so is the bread - £250 for 400g loaf. But it's well worth it, we feel!
6. Chocolate & Raspberry Muffins - on the list
What's not to like!! Just pointing it out in case you miss it - being going going gone at St Ives Market for a couple of weeks now
7. Orb Holiday Reminder -
No baking weekend of the 18,19 September - so no bread in St Ives Market, Bushel Box or orders - sorry!
If you'd like to see what we do click here for an order form..or email [email protected]
