Sourdough September:
15% Discount for first two weeks on all Orb's Sourdough Breads
The Real Bread Campaign has an annual promo event called Sourdough September - where it promotes all things sourdough and challenges all the sour 'faux' that there is out there in the retail world - where supermarkets and other large companies use sourdough's popularity to sell their own products labelled as 'sourdough' when they are anything but sourdough!
[Sourdough: for those that don't know, is bread that is made using naturally created yeasts from a fermented sourdough 'starter' - and so it does not use baker's yeast. This not only produces a fantastic tasting bread but research has shown that longer fermented bread like sourdough is better for us nutritionally speaking - and some people who can't tolerate gluten have found that they can enjoy sourdough.]
Real bread bakeries like Orb take part in Sourdough September and this year we're doing so by offering a 15% discount on our sourdough loaves for the mid 2 weeks of September - ie from Mon 5th Sept to and including Sunday 18th Sept.
So if you order any Sourdough loaf from us for Friday 9th September, buy from the Orb stall at Over Village Market on 10th September or order from us on the weekend of 16th &17th September we'll sell them cheaper to encourage you to give them a go... we know you'll be impressed

Gluten-Free Sourdough
Want to give it a go?
As part of Sourdough September Orb has been experimenting with Sourdough Gluten-Free bread. The wonderful real bread guru, Andrew Whitley's classic book 'Bread Matters' has a section on Gluten Free baking including Sourdough made with a brown rice flour starter.
Mark has always been shy of trying this - feeling that he needed to get to grips with 'normal' sourdough first. But over the last few weeks he's created a brown sourdough starter and has now made a few loaves which one of our lovely customers has been feeding back on.
We've now got a version of Andrew Whitley's Rice, linseed and Nut Sourdough loaf that we'd like some other people to try - and especially if you have gluten free members of your household - we need a comparison of our loaf against commercially produced Gluten Free breads.
The Orb GF loaf is made with cashew, walnut and almond nuts, linseeds, a mix of flours (brown rice, tapioca, maize and buckwheat, a small amount of veg oil, cider vinegar and EGG (allergens in capitals))
If you'd like to give this bread a go for free please get in touch by sending an email to [email protected] and we'll give a loaf portion to try.

Ian's pizza session
Now, we think during Sourdough September a couple of year's ago - Orb ran a competition to win an Orb Bread teaching session. Our friend Ian Nye won that competition and just this week we've managed to get it together for him to collect his prize! (we're all very busy people!!)
We had a great afternoon at Orb HQ making twice fermented pizza and Orb's delightful Focaccia. Being a teacher himself Ian made a surprisingly good student!! and just look at what he produced!!...Orb will be adding Pizza to it's teaching offer when we come back from France next year (did we tell you were going to France for 5 months?)
Ian and his wife Michelle reported back the both Pizza and Focaccia tasted fantastic - and we hope that Ian will be repeating his success solo at home in the very near future..
