We enjoyed our week of not baking commercially - but we baked like crazy for our family party for our Ruby's 18th birthday party - everyone went home with a doggy bag of bread (not cake!!). We are looking forward to baking for you again this week.....
Euro 2016 Bakes: Icelandic Sweet Dark Rye Bread
You'll remember that last week that England had just been knocked out of the Euro Finals by Iceland.... ICELAND! ... ICELAND! ICELAND!!!!!!
Anyway.... the one benefit is that we've discovered that Iceland bakers bake a nice dark sweet rye bread that we have now tried and it's absolutely delicious. It can be eaten as is, with butter or with honey, marmalade etc.
A great Breakfast bread or for coffee break or for tea time or for supper.... or, or, or, or.....
It is baked at a low temperature for over 6 hours - making a very distinctive bread - would really encourage you to try it..
It is sweetened with Golden Syrup and Honey - but it is not very very sweet... and may even take a strong cheese - not that we've tried this yet.
It will cost £3.40 (about 480g)

Euro 2016 Orb Bakes - Bara Brith from Wales
As we all try desperately to find any ancestors from Wales - we're all becoming Welsh now!
We offered up Wales' famous Bara Brith fruit bread a couple of weeks ago and it went down really well. And so this week this is a truly wonderfully flavourful tea loaf - great spread with butter, but moist enough to be eaten without is up for grabs again..
Bara Brith means 'speckled bread in Welsh - the speckles come from copious amounts of mixed dried fruit. We soak the mixed dried fruit overnight in tea to plump it all up and then give this yeasted fruit bread two long ferments... and the result is fantastic (sorry to gush but it truly is wonderful!) tasty moist bread - you'll never leave it at one slice!!
It will cost £3.30 for a 440g loaf - yum yum!!
