We had another great day at our fifth Market on the Green on Saturday. Mark 'pulled an all-nighter' (why does one 'pull' an all-nighter??) baking like crazy. We calculated that we'd baked over 195 loaves and dozens of cakes. - and they all went - again. Fortunately we had bread on the stall for much longer than previous markets meaning that people who had turned up later had some choices too.
The market welcomed a number of new stalls this time - Chilean Chunkies, selling street food from Chile; Cambridge Cheese Company, Allsorts cafe - selling muffins - over 150 sold!; Country House Mouse; vintage sweets and upcycled furniture, Bizi Lizzy fabrics, Scented Candle Company and Rela Designs (fabrics and interior designs). A really eclectic mix.
Hundreds of people turned up - and all the stalls we enthusiastic about our very freindly market - all want to come back - so well done Over!!

You may have picked up that the Real Bread Campaign (of which Orb is a keen member) has over an number of year organised a week of publicity to promoted the making of and eating of Real Bread - ie' bread made with no additives - and consisting only of flour water, salt and yeast plus natural added ingredients. - ie. not like the industrial loaves found in supermarkets. Arund the Country bakeries were promoting this week.
Orb did not have any specific events this year but were active on social media. On twitter the hashtag #RealBreadWeek has long been adopted to bring together the tweets associated with this promotion - and, guess what, according to the RBC some of the big boys have commandeered this hastag to associate their products with real bread. Nothing illegal about this and in some ways it is flattering that they try this subterfuge - but it just shows how we all have to be careful to challenge statement made by big companies about food they produce and what is meant by the statements they make.
A shameless plug for Mark's band who are playing down the road in Longstanton this Friday (another interesting night of mixed music making and bread baking in the offing!!).
If you're interested it's FREE and you can avail yourself of a tasty Chinese meal too! We start at @8.30pm - and we'll be finishing up at @11.30pm
