Glyphosate in your bread?
The Soil Association http://www.soilassociation.org/ has a current campaign that is asking farmers to stop using the weedkiller, glyphosate, on wheat crops.
The vast majority of the flour used in Orb's bread is Prior's Flour. It is organic, and stoneground and comes from Fosters Windmill in Swaffham Prior http://www.priorsflour.co.uk/ So absolutely no chance of glyphosate having been used. But we also use Allinson's bread, plain and self-raising flours. This is locally milled in Peterborough but is not organic and is not stoneground.
We have asked Allinson's if they can let guarantee that their flour is not made from wheat that has had glyphosate sprayed on it - we are waiting the response. We were thinking of removing Allinson's from our ingredients in any case - so we can begin to say that all our breads use organic stoneground flour - and this may the impetus we need.
If you're concerned the possibility of glyphosate in your bread then we'd encourage you to follow the links above and especially to sign the Soil Association petition to Government to legislate about this https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ban-weed-killer-glyphosate-sprayed-on-wheat-just-before-it-is-harvested
Next Over Village Market
The OVM committee is organising another market before Christmas - hold the date of 12th December - we'll be holding it on the Green again - provided it is not too wet. If it is too wet we'll be on the car park and front playground of the Primary School.
We'll have the an equally varied group of stall holders selling food and craft products.
Christmas is coming....
Yes, we know, we've not even had Hallow'een yet!! But in the Orb development kitchen we need to get our act together - so, Any requests for Christmas bakes. We'll be making the Orb Stollen again, and we'll put our Cinnamon Bolus buns back on the list in the next few weeks.
But, what would you like us to bake - if you've a favourite bake - perhaps from Christmas past or Christmas spent abroad - do let us know - the more the merrier!!
