Our fist blog since we started this adventure on 1st Sept 2013. We're going to add an entry at least once a week - cos' we send out our order form on Sunday nights and always add in a bit of news or something (what we think is) of interest.
So here's what went out this week --
Spring has Sprung!
So it was the first day of Spring the other day. Buds coming on and some daffs already in flower... and for us this heralds the arrival of invitations to attend Spring and Summer events. Currently we are looking to attend the following events:
Food labelling - Food Programme 1st March 15
We mentioned the Food Programme a week or two back that was all about Wheat - still worth a listen. As was this weekend's -programme, which was all about labelling is also worth listening to if only to find out why radish is used in a mass produced Bakewell Tart!
Labelling law is a bit of a bugbear of ours - since last Dec we must indicate on our labels which ingredients are potential allergens - we do this by putting those ingredients in capitals and bold. But if you go to Tescos, Sainsbury's etc and go to their "bakery" section you'll see that they simply have a very small label on the display units saying something bland like - these products may contain ingredients that are allergens. Nothing on the labels themselves. I've still to find out why us small bakers have to go the whole hog on labelling but the supermarkets do not.
The Food Programme is available on iplayer at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b053zsn1#auto
