les Baguettes d'Orb
St Ives is so much more cosmopolitan than we ever thought before we started the market stall on Fridays. It's been an unexpected pleasure to sell biscotti and foccacia to Italians; to sell rye breads to Polish families and to sell baguettes to French people. They may all just be just very nice people - but they have all said how authentic our European products are. We've got a new customer who is French - she had a baguette last weekend and Mark just had to know what she thought of his efforts; "We had one for breakfast and wanted another for lunch....we loved it. It has been fantastic to discover we can have proper bread in Over!! Happy breakfast for my husband - we'll have two baguettes next week"
Picture the sight of Mark gleefully skipping around the kitchen chanting 'A French woman loves my baguettes! .. A French woman loves my baguettes'
*We hope that the French phrase in the subject line means 'praise for the English baguettes'. Well that's what google translate says anyway - No doubt someone will tell us if that's wrong!
Orb Photos - and Cambridge News - 3rd August
Last Friday a very nice photographer called Richard from the Cambridge News came to Orb HQ to take some photos of bread, cakes and us! The News is running a 16 page supplement about all the shortlisted organisations for this year's Cambridge Food & Drink Awards. The Award Ceremony is next Thursday at Quy Mill - so another week or so to wait.....oooooo!! how exciting!!
Over Farmer's Market?
Those of you on Facebook will have seen the flurry of activity we've caused by suggesting that Over could have a Farmer's Market. We've already contacted the Parish Council who have given us the go-ahead to use the Pavilion and part of the Green.
We'll be getting together with Heather and Charlie from Fen End Country Kitchen, and David and Abby from Rosegate Farm and Butchery in Swavesey to do some planning next Wednesday. If any of you have any expertise/skills/enthusiasm and would like to help out we'd be delighted to hear from you, We'd also be delighted if you'd like to sell anything - let us know. We'd also be very pleased to know what you think about this idea - is it something you'd like to see?
