What a fantastic day! Great weather, wonderful atmosphere. We had a great day on the stall, our friends from 'up north' were there; and lots and lots of lovely people came to have a chat and most of them bought something, which was great!!
Mark had a great time drumming with his band ER in the evening and all in all it was a just a fab weekend. We've passed on our thanks to all of the Carnival committee & the volunteers who give up their time to put on this great event.
If you'd like to see ER's last two songs click here to find a nice little video on You Tube
There's no easy way to say this... so we'll come right out with it! Mark & Caroline have been given the opportunity to run a ski chalet in the mountain village of Morzine in the French Alps for the coming ski season. This will mean we'll be putting Orb Bakery on hold for 5 months. We'll stop baking at the end of October and then start again in May 2017!
This has been a difficult if very exciting decision for us to make. Orb is going so well, and we're just getting lots of interest from outlets looking to buy our products to sell. But we also need to have some idea of what we're going to do with the business into the future and embedding ourselves in high pressured hospitality and catering environment will give us a great idea of if this a way we want to go. Oh yes!.. we hope to be doing tons of skiing too!!
We are sorry that we won't be baking for you for a while - but we're hopeful that absence will make your hearts get fonder!!....We'll see.
If you're interested - the company we'll be working for is a small one called AliKats who have 5 chalets in and around Morzine - which is part of the massive Porte du Soliel ski area. Here's a link to their website http://alikats.eu. The Chalet we'll be running is called Riverwood Lodge http://alikats.eu/chalets/riverwood-lodge/
Okay - this week we're trying to help out our lovely customers who just love our Walnut & Honey Bread and our Dutch Cinnamon Buns - called Bolus
Walnut Bread with Wildflower Honey
This bread has with Wlidflower Honey and walnut pieces. It is made with rye sourdough starter and organic Rye, Wholemeal and White flours. It is really tasty and has a few very dedicated fans. It's quite a complex loaf to make and so to make it economic we do need to have a few orders before we can bake. So if you've had it before and liked it - this coming weekend is your opportunity to try it again.
And if you've never tried it - well, your in for treat. Great with butter, Great Toasted - We've never put anything on it but butter! But honey would go down very well - and perhaps marmalade. And, thinking about it, I guess it would be fantastic with cheese too.
Q: Walnut Bread fans - How do you eat your bread? - let us know we'd love to pass on your ideas.
Mark started making these tasty coffee-time treats after seeing the Hairy Bikers visit a crazy baker in the Netherlands for whom bolus are a speciality. Do go and have a look at clip on You tube - it's a bit of a laff...

Whilst the Dutch have adopted them the Bolus were originally Jewish bakes.
Our customer David has these every single week ... but you can imagine making just one portion is great fun but not great business!! So why not give them a go - they could become your favourite coffee treat too - you can sit with a Cappuccino and pretend we're still part of Europe!
